Music in The Rothko Room
Music and particularly Serial Music provides a key element in The Rothko Room. Arthur Shepherd and Stuart Bracewell find themselves doing more than listening to and enjoying atonal music. It becomes for them a matter of life and death. I spent a good deal of time making sure that all the serial compositions made sense and since I have no experience in composing serial music, this took a while. It's a bit anal, I suppose, but I wanted to make sure that messages could be transmitted using serial music. Below are a couple of screenshots showing my workings on Excel as well as the theme that Arthur writes down from "Reiterations" by Noel Lear. |
Below is "Limns" by Noel Lear. Of course, it's really by me, which is why anyone with an ounce of musical ability would not be fooled for a second. If anyone's curious, there's another piece of mine (thankfully not serial) on the Rothko Room Covers page.
